Our Culture

At Custos, diligence is more than attention to detail. Rooted in the Latin word diligo, it means to choose, to value, and to love. For us, diligence means thoroughness with love–for our clients, for one another, and for the mission behind the numbers.

We are vigilant. To keep vigil is to watch like a guardian. The very word custos means watchman. When something needs attention, we respond quickly and communicate clearly. “On-time, done-right accounting” begins with alertness and vigilance.

Our team creates space to invest in family, faith, and community. We value meaningful work in every area of life, not just the kind that comes with a paycheck. Our rhythm of work reflects both purpose and rest.

What Our Clients are Saying

“We reached out to Custos because we were feeling increasingly unsure about where we stood financially…. Now that we have accurate, timely financial information, we have the confidence to make clear decisions around things like setting salaries, approving raises and bonuses, and establishing realistic admissions and fundraising goals. That sense of clarity has given us confidence and peace of mind across every area of our planning.”

“Working with Custos CPA has elevated the business practices of our small, growing organization. We came to Custos needing to improve the professionalism of financial reporting. Now we have much higher confidence in meeting reporting obligations and forecasting, and appreciate their understanding of working with our nonprofit. Utilizing the services and expertise of Custos allows our small staff to focus on other operational responsibilities, and we are confident in the quality of reporting for our leadership and constituents. Their timely customer service helps us succeed!”

quote

“The first year of school operations was the perfect time for us to engage Custos’ services. While we managed the basic financial needs of the start-up phase internally, the added financial complexities of payroll, taxes, 1099s, 990s, etc. were too much for us to confidently execute without professional help. I am grateful for Custos’ expertise in these areas, giving me confidence that none of the financial record keeping or reporting items are falling through the cracks.”

Ollie Bockwinkel

Founder & CEO

Ollie is an entrepreneurial Catholic with a heart for Latin and Greek root words and a mind for numbers. In May of 2021, he founded Custos CPA, an outsourced accounting firm serving faith-based nonprofits. Inspired by his own faith experience at the University of Dallas (BA ‘15, Classical Philology-Greek), Ollie knows firsthand the power of an intentionally Catholic, integrated curriculum to heal and form souls in the love of Christ and has fully embraced that mission as a seed of the New Evangelization, most particularly by serving a growing number of Chesterton Academies nationwide with his team of accounting professionals. He has served the local (Kansas City) Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri in a variety of roles over the years, as Treasurer, Chairman of the Board, and development director.

Prior to starting Custos, Ollie worked for RubinBrown LLP and then Pro 31 Tax & Accounting LLC. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Missouri, and obtained a Masters in Accountancy from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business in 2017.

Ollie grew up in Shawnee, KS and attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Rockhurst High School. He is a parishioner at Coronation of Our Lady in Grandview, MO and resides a five-minute walk away from the parish with his wife, Lindsay, and five sons.
